Original Tuscany's products are made of handcrafted leather, tanned in S.Croce sull'Arno, near Florence, the cradle of a great leather manufacturing tradition. The leather, once accurately selected, is sectioned in two parts: the superficial part is called full grain leather, the one underneath is called crust.
The leather is then transformed into the finished product through tanning, which can be either vegetable, chemical or a mix of the two. Florence is renown for vegetable tanning: here over the centuries, the master tanners have perfected and passed on techniques which have originated in prehistory transforming rough leather into a refined one.
Then as today this system exploits the action of tannins, which are extracted from wood and chestnut, oak or mimosa leaves. The leathers rest for days, sometimes months, in drums or tanks, and are then dried and polished, to be finally ready to be finished. Most of Original Tuscany products are handcrafted and are available in a limited edition: the chosen model can be created on the fly and customized according to specific requests.
